Job Title: Functional Skills & Generalist Cover Tutor
Location: HMP (Rutland)
Salary: From £30,000 per annum
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time
The Opportunity
Are you an expert in English looking for a teaching role where your skills can transform lives and support social rehabilitation?
We are recruiting for a dedicated Functional Skills & Generalist Cover Tutor to join the education team on-site at HMP Stocken. In this role, you will deliver higher-level English tutoring while also providing adaptable generalist cover across the education department. Working with small groups of prison-based learners, you will help them develop key skills, knowledge, and positive behaviours that align directly with their long-term goals and aspirations.
What You Will Be Doing
Higher-Level English Delivery: Plan and deliver engaging, high-quality higher-level English training programmes tailored to the needs of adult learners in custody.
Generalist Cover Support: Provide dynamic teaching cover across a variety of subject areas as needed, ensuring continuous, seamless educational delivery across the department.
Tailored Learning Plans: Ensure appropriate, individualised training plans are established for all learners, providing consistent advice and guidance throughout their course.
Learner Engagement: Utilize a diverse range of training methods to keep sessions interactive, inspiring, and accessible, enabling every student to reach their full potential.
Progress Tracking: Monitor learner development, assess progress, and maintain high standards of quality assurance in line with organisational expectations.
What We Are Looking For
Subject Expertise: A Level 3 qualification in English (or equivalent) combined with substantial experience as an expert in your field.
Training Experience: Proven track record of delivering training or teaching, with the ability to adapt methods to engage learners from varied backgrounds.
Teaching Qualifications: A teaching or assessing qualification is desirable. No teaching qualification? No problem! Full support will be provided to help you achieve the appropriate qualifications and assessments during your probationary period.
Key Skills: Excellent communication, strong group facilitation skills, and a supportive, resilient approach suitable for a secure adult environment.
